“I FEEL BLESSED!”
FAMILY BLISS INSTEAD OF GLAMOUR: “ER” STAR ALEX KINGSTON, 39, HAS FOUND HER HAPPINESS WITH A GERMAN

sometimes even in a sushi bar in L.A.: When
Alex Kingston met Munich journalist Florian Härtel there four years ago, she knew immediately: He is the one! Today, the two are married, living with their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Salome and two dogs in the mountains of Hollywood.

How did you meet your husband?

On a blind date. A friend from England told me she had met someone who was a-catch would be perfect for me. I was curious about that.

Where did they meet?

On a blind date. A friend from England told me she had met someone who was just perfect for me. I was curious.

Where did you meet?

In a sushi bar. He first amazed me and then won my heart. I don’t know if all Germans are like that, but I love Florian’s openness. Many English men are very
reserved when it comes to feelings. German men are generally considered conservative. I never thought I would marry a German either. But he’s not really German, he’s Bavarian. Bavarians are much more relaxed. But they still maintain their traditions. My husband, for example, likes to wear traditional Bavarian clothing. I bought myself a red leather dirndl and find it amusing to be admired in it.

In which language do you argue with your husband?

I only argue in English. Because the vocabulary in German is not sufficient.

You are a famous actress, your husband at home with the child – does this strain your relationship?

Initially, it was difficult for him when the shooting schedule disrupted our private plans again. But as a journalist, he also knows the other side of the red carpet and can understand my strong need for privacy. As a family, we are actually very boring – we prefer going to the mountains rather than fancy bars.

Child, husband, house, dogs – was this your dream?

Yes, that’s exactly what I wanted. I even want to have a much larger family. Maybe it will work out with a second child. I am fortunate to be able to work despite having a family. My husband is a stay-at-home dad and takes care of our daughter when I’m filming. I feel truly blessed at the moment – these are the happiest years of my life. I couldn’t have dreamed of anything better.

What has become of your love for the theater?

I miss the theater terribly. I am an actress by passion and have chosen this profession to be on stage. As a character actress, I will definitely return to the stage.
